Professor John Hattie, Melbourne Laureate Professor and Director of the Melbourne Educational Research Institute, visited NIE on the 21st of January 2020. He delivered an engaging and inspiring talk on narrowing the gap between research and practice in the education field. Particularly, Professor Hattie shared about the trials and tribulations of implementing Science of Learning research findings in learning contexts such as classrooms. He also spoke of strategies that educators can employ to improve learning and engagement in students.

The insightful session wrapped up with a panel discussion, where Professor Hattie was joined by Professor Avishai Henik, Distinguished Professor of Psychology from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Chaired by Dr Azilawati Jamaludin, the discussion saw a lively exchange between the professors and members of the audience on the importance, opportunities and challenges of research to practice translation.
